Wharton graduates are mostly Republicans
The University of Pennsylvania has produced more billionaires than any other university in the world. As of 2015, at least 25 UPenn alumni were net worth more than $ 1 billion. That figure excluded the third richest person in the world, Warren Buffett, who attended UPenn for two years before graduating and graduating from the University of Nebraska. Harvard University ranks second with 22 billionaire graduates while Yale University has 20 graduates. The school owes its impressive list of high net worth graduates largely to its business school, the Wharton. The School of Business, whose MBA and undergraduate business programs both received number one rankings by several business publications, including Forbes, Business Insider, and US News & amp; World report. Most of UPenn's billionaire alums made their living as business moguls in fields as diverse as fashion, finance, and real estate. The following people represent some of the school's most high-profile billionaire albums.
Equal parts fascinating and polarizing, Donald Trump is a real estate developer, reality television personality, and, at the time of writing, the leading Republican candidate for President of the United States. Trump graduated from UPenn’s Wharton School with a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1968. He did his first two years undergraduate work at Fordham University before moving to UPenn. Donald Trump began his real estate career in the 1970s by working for his father, Fred Trump. The couple bought income-earning properties across the New York metropolitan area and rented them primarily to mid-sized renters. Eventually Trump moved to bigger and more noticeable shopping in Manhattan and eventually expanded into hotels and casinos, such as the ill-fated Taj Mahal in nearby Atlantic City, New Jersey.
From the 1990s and beyond, Trump was as focused on his branding efforts as he was on his iconic buildings. This eventually led to the presidential candidacy, which still leads him to the Republican field in April 2016. Trump places his fortune at $ 10 billion, although other sources, including Forbes, put it closer to $ 3 billion.
Elon Musk is an inventor and business tycoon who made his fortune in the technology sector and helped found several forward-thinking companies including SpaceX, SolarCity Corporation (NASDAQ: SCTY) and Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA).
Like Trump, Musk transferred to UPenn. He spent his first two years at Queen’s University in Canada. He studied physics and economics at UPenn, the latter at the Wharton School. Starting with $ 28,000 from his father, Musk started his first large company in 1995. Under the name Zip2, the company developed one of the first iterations of a local Internet search platform for large cities. Computer company Compaq acquired Zip2 in 1999 for over $ 300 million. He also co-founded the online payment gateway PayPal Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: PYPL), which he sold to eBay Inc. (NASDAQ: EBAY) in 2002. Musk has focused its business efforts in the 21st century on being socially responsible and producing wealth. His three companies promote sustainability and green energy. As of April 2016, Musk's net worth was estimated at $ 14.2 billion.
Fashion designer Tory Burch earned her bachelor's degree from UPenn in 1988, although she did not attend the award. Wharton School. Instead, she studied art history, a college major who was often ridiculed for leading to a lack of lucrative career opportunities. Burch countered this trend with certainty and started working as an advertising clerk for Vera Wang and Ralph Lauren in New York before founding his own clothing line in 2004. It was an instant hit. Their first inventory sold out within 24 hours. Burch sales began in 2005 when Oprah Winfrey confirmed it on the air, calling it the next big thing in fashion. In 2016, over 160 Tory Burch stores shaped the global retail landscape and the designer's net worth was estimated at over $ 1 billion.
