What is a load cell strain gauge?
A strain gauge is an electrical resistor that is glued to the deformation body of the load cell and connected to the electronics.

How does a flexible beam load cell / S-type load cell work? How does a flexible beam load cell work?
Flexible beam load cells and S-type load cells work on the same principle as all other flexible beam load cells, but keep the load and capacity in line. This means that there are no external moments, making them relatively easy to integrate. They are mostly used in applications with the S-type load cell mode of operation.

A strain gauge load cell is integrated into the weighing equipment. It is equipped with strain gauge load cell technology to apply the operation of the S-Type load cell so that when a piece is weighed, the force it exerts is measured. The strain gauge load cell deforms or reacts to the force - the strain gauge maps this deformation accordingly, which leads to an electrical signal that is then evaluated in digital form.

They correspond to protection classes IP67, IP68 or even IP69K. DMS load cells, flexible rod load cells and S-type load cells support CalFree calibration without test weights or even CalFree Plus and thus enable tank calibration at the push of a button.

What is a shear beam load cell?
Shear beam load cells measure the shear load in the counterforce of the load cell. Since this is not a strict definition, the term is often used for any flexible beam load cell, regardless of its measuring principle or the S-type load cells. Despite frequent contradicting statements, shear beam load cells are in principle more accurate than rod load cells in the scientific sense.
