Sang Taron Egerton in Rocketman

Robin Hood actor Taron Egerton plays a gay singer | "Rocketman" shows the career of Sir Elton John

Elton John comes to the cinema. Or rather: his life and his music.

"Rocketman" is the first film about the changeable life and career of Sir Elton John (71). Taron Egerton (29, "Robin Hood") takes on the leading role. Elton John produced the film himself - together with his husband David Furnish (56).

The "Candle in the Wind" singer is currently on a big farewell tour, but the British, who will celebrate his 72nd birthday on Monday, is far from quiet. With around 450 million records sold worldwide, John is one of the greatest musicians of our time and is currently writing his memoir: “My life was a real rollercoaster ride and now I'm ready to tell you my story, in my own words. My first and only autobiography will be published in October 2019, ”he explains on Twitter.

If you don't want to wait until October, you can see your life in the cinema as early as May.

“He sings all of the Elton John hits himself

The dazzling musical fantasy film “Rocketman” is directed by Dexter Flechter (53) - the man who staged the Oscar masterpiece “Bohemian Rhapsody” when Bryan Singer (53) had to take his hat off the abuse allegations.

Taron Egerton, who is supposed to fill the history of the music legend with life, was chosen by Elton John himself. The special thing about "Rocketman" is that Egerton sings all the songs himself.

And what does Sir Elton John think of the man who will sing his songs in the film?

"I don't think anyone has sung my songs as well as Taron."

It was particularly important to him to "convincingly portray a gay man," explains Egerton. "It was very, very important to me to make sure that the physical intimacy with men is really believable and that it looks nice, not somehow made the Hollywood way or defused," said Egerton, who is now good friends with Elton John.

The invited guests of the annual Oscar party of the "Elton John AIDS Foundation" were able to convince themselves of the vocal qualities of the actor. The audience was amazed when Egerton spontaneously suggested a vocal interlude from "Tiny Dancer" (from 1972). Elton John insisted on accompanying him on the piano.

Actor and presenter Lukas Sauer (27) also found it “absolutely impressive”. He has been supporting the "Elton John AIDS Foundation" for several years and was there in Los Angeles this year.

Sauer admits that he was skeptical at first because he “couldn't quite imagine” Egerton in the role of Elton John. “When I saw the two perform together, my doubts immediately disappeared. Taron was convincing all along the line, ”enthuses the 27-year-old to BILD.

What is the movie about?
